She Sheds

I adore the trend of "she sheds."  They are the feminine version of a "man cave"...a personal space to call your own, a retreat, an escape. What they can be used for can vary quite a bit: an art studio,  a grown-up playhouse, a gardening shed, a tiny cottage, or just a place to hang out and enjoy a quiet moment.  More and more ladies are staking claim to backyard sheds as a little place to call their own, whether it be for gardening or just somewhere to curl up with a good book.  Here's how to create the perfect hideaway.

1. Clean out your old backyard shed.

Have you been conveniently "forgetting" to clean out that shed? Creating a "she shed" is the perfect kick in the butt for finally getting it done. Go through all the clutter, then donate what you don't need anymore and organize the rest for storage. Don't have an old shed or unused children's playhouse already sitting around your backyard? You can buy a kit at your local tool store or hire RyCass Remodel and Restoration, LLC to build one to your specifications.

2. Paint It Up

You can turn your humdrum shed into something extra ordinary with a coat of paint. Give it new life with a color that calls to you. It could be a calming sea green or a vibrant pink. Make it yours with the colors you choose.

3. Define the purpose of your shed.

The point of a "she shed" is to have a space of your own to enjoy a hobby that's important to you. If you're not an avid artist or gardener, your "she shed" can simply be used as a quiet place to hang out(drink wine) with friends or curl up with a good book.

4. Thrifty Decorating

You do not have to spend a lot of money decorating your "she shed" . You can create a space that feels relaxed without breaking the bank. Look to flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops for unexpected finds.

5. Surround yourself with nature

Placing your shed in a out of the way spot and surrounding it with plants, and vines. Adding window boxes full of flowers can create a peaceful vibe. You can bring nature inside by decorating with plants, fresh flower arrangements, and throw pillows with feminine floral patterns. Climbing vines can help add to the "secret" hideaway vibe.

6. Enticing entryway.

"She sheds" should have an inviting look, especially if you're hoping to entertain your friends there. Adding an arbor would be one way to make the exterior look appealing. You could also decorate the exterior with romantic outdoor curtains, white twinkle lights or hanging lanterns.

7.  Stock Up to Entertain.

Girls night in the "she shed"? To make certain everything you need for a fun night is handy, think about adding a mini fridge. Then stock with party essentials..... and you are good to go! An outside fire pit could be added just outside your shed too.

8.  Reflection of you.

Remember, it's your space! let your "she shed" be a reflection of you. Let your light shine!!!!!
